Sarah Palin tweeted “peaceful Muslims” should “refudiate”

Palin invents word ‘refudiate,’ compares herself to Shakespeare

The Twittersphere erupted Sunday when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin tweeted that “peaceful Muslims” should “refudiate” the mosque being built in New York City near where the Twin Towers once stood. Palin found herself the butt of many tweets, as refudiate, of course, is not a word in the English language.

After deleting the offending tweet, Palin replaced it with another calling on “peaceful New Yorkers” to “refute the Ground Zero mosque plan,” which only added to the confusion because it would appear the word she was looking for was “repudiate.” Then came the kicker: To quell the vicious Twitter-ribbing she was receiving, Palin unleashed yet another tweet comparing herself to no less than the Bard of Avon.

Naturally, this led to a very entertaining Twitter meme, #ShakesPalin, in which participants revamped classic Shakespeare quotes, Palin-style (and of which Reason’s The Cato Institute’s Julian Sanchez was arguably the champion).

A good time had by all.

Mel Gibson Dead? Is Mel Gibson’s career dead?

‘Mel Gibson dead’; screams new net headlines. If the query is, “Is Mel Gibson’s career dead?”, then yes, Mel Gibson is dead. But no, the real-life Mel Gibson is still alive, probably trying to figure out what his next move will be. These Mel Gibson death rumors appear to have originated on Twitter tonight, with plenty of users trying to push the team “RIP Mel Gibson” to the top of the trends list. It is not difficult to figure out why Gibson is becoming the target of these latest celebrity rumors, after all of the allegations in his personal life. Gibson has found himself as the new star of the tabloids, and is bringing millions of hits to the net site TMZ for their coverage of his messy custody battle.

Recent audio clips of Gibson allegedly making racist comments as well as hateful comments about the sister of his child have lowered the public’s opinion of Gibson. They was dropped by his talent representatives, and it seems that they could be close to walking himself out of Hollywood. It is also difficult to see how his career can recover from all of the things going on in his personal life, most of which show him in an very negative life. It is been completed before though; look at how Mark Wahlberg has made people forget about his time on the “streets” or how Robert Downey Jr. and Charlie Sheen still have millions of fans despite their personal lives exploding in the public eye. Can Gibson recover? Who knows, but at least they is not dead like the rumors claim.

Super 8 movie trailer, top secret J.J. Abrams-Steven Spielberg project revealed

It may be a rare case where the trailer upstages the main attraction.

Paramount officially admitted the existence of “Super 8,” a top secret J.J. Abrams-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi project, that conspiracy theorists on the Web have been gushing about for the last few days Variety reported.

The first teaser trailer leaked on the Internet a few days ago is now being shown to the general public before “Iron Man 2,” in theaters Friday.

Abrams’ plot is a mystery, although Variety quotes insiders as saying it’s very influenced by the “Lost” co-creator’s love of Spielberg’s ’70s sci-fi movies. Early speculation among bloggers was that the movie was a sequel to 2008′s “Cloverfield,” but Abrams has shot down those rumors, according to Deadline.com.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner safely lands in Farnborough

Boeing 787

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner makes it's approach at the Farnborough Airshow.

FARNBOROUGH, England—The aerospace industry’s biggest annual trade show begins here on Monday, but the Farnborough International Airshow’s most anticipated event went off without a hitch on Sunday morning when Boeing Co.’s 787 Dreamliner landed and began its first visit outside the U.S.

After a nearly nine-hour flight from Seattle, the white twin-engine jet with a dark blue racing stripe touched down shortly after 9 a.m. local time and was quickly parked in front of company officials, media and VIPs on hand to greet it. Boeing Chariman and Chief Executive Jim McNerney led company directors on a private tour of the aircraft, followed by a tour for a Congressional delegation from the U.S. that included Sens. Tom Harkin, Lindsey Graham and James Inhofe.

The Dreamliner’s arrival at Farnborough is a milestone for Chicago-based Boeing and the troubled 787 program, which is nearly three years behind schedule. A year ago, at the Paris Air Show, Boeing executives were insistent that the Dreamliner was on track to make its first flight by June 30, but in the week following the show, they disclosed a design flaw and were forced to again delay the jet’s first flight by six months.
