Keith Olbermann Has Some Strong Words for Bill Simmons (UPDATE)

It’s been an interesting 24 hours for MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. Keith Olbermann let his sense of humor see the light of day on last night’s Daily Show Chatroulette satire, and now Keith Olbermann already got another notch in the belt of being more down to earth than evidence sometimes suggests.

The target this time is ESPN’s Bill Simmons – a.k.a. The Sports Guy – and his far-reaching Tiger-Woods’s-Comeback-is-Like-Muhammed-Ali’s column that went up on Wednesday on ESPN.com. Update: Simmons responds!

Keith Olbermann response was posted on hist Major League Baseball-supported blog:

I promised no politics here and I stick to it. But I never said anything about never mentioning other sports, although I think I’ll start that rule about a paragraph from now. If you’d like to read the most poorly-informed conclusion I’ve come across in sports media this year, you have your link. Proceed with caution. In short, it is the contention that the comeback of Tiger Woods will be more difficult than the one Muhammad Ali faced in the 1960’s. If the writer can let me know when Woods is punitively drafted by the military even though he is about eight years older than almost all the other draftees, I’ll begin to take him seriously. In the interim I am again left to marvel how somebody can rise to a fairly prominent media position with no discernible insight or talent, save for an apparent ability to mix up a vast bowl of word salad very quickly.

‘SNL’ Presidents Reunion Appear in Web Comic Clip

Actors who played U.S. presidents on TV’s “Saturday Night Live” appear together in a new online comedy clip intended to spotlight the need for financial reform.

The video was posted on the Funny or Die Web site Wednesday.

The site’s proprietors said it was created in association with Americans for Financial Reform — a coalition of more than 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, investor, civil rights, community, small business and senior citizen organizations — to urge Congress “to act now on financial reform and to make sure the cornerstone or real reform, a strong and independent consumer agency, is included in any final bill.”

Directed by Ron Howard and written by Adam McKay and Al Jean, the video was shot in Van Nuys, Calif. Sunday. The comic clip brings together the actors who portrayed presidents on “Saturday Night Live,” including Will Ferrell as George W. Bush, Fred Armisen as Barack Obama, Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton, Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford, Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter and Dana Carvey as George H. W. Bush. Jim Carrey rounds out the cast with his portrayal of Ronald Regan and “SNL” alum Maya Rudolph is featured as current first lady Michelle Obama.

Obama ‘Fit For Duty,’ But Smoking Still A Problem

Transforming the nation’s health care system is apparently easy compared with giving up cigarettes.

The results of President Obama’s first annual physical, released Sunday, suggest he’s still lighting up. The evidence is oblique but clear. White House doctor Jeffrey Kuhlman writes Obama should “continue smoking cessation efforts.” The president’s list of meds also includes nicotine gum, when he needs it.

While the president was declared “fit for duty,” he does need to clean up his diet. His total cholesterol is 209, on the borderline for trouble. His LDL, or bad cholesterol, is 138, and the doctor wants him to get that below 130. No drugs needed, for now, instead the doctor recommends eating better.

Obama Taps Campaign Finance Director Julianna Smoot As Next White House Social Secretary

Julianna Smoot will replace Desiree Rogers when she steps down next month. Julianna Smoot is a big Democratic donor and last served as chief of staff for U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

Glenn Beck’s Nolan Chart Political Pop Quiz

People throw around a bunch of political labels. Progressive vs. Liberal, Conservative vs. Libertarian. Do you know where you fall?

Well Glenn Beck, the controversial political commentator, seems to think most people don’t. That’s why he is challenging people to take a political pop quiz of sorts. The quiz is called the Nolan Chart survey, a group of ten questions which are supposed to gauge your political bent.

Nolan Chart survey is a quick quiz, so it may behoove you to check it out, even if just for kicks. But be warned, ever since Glenn Beck mentioned the Nolan Chart Survey, the website has been very hard to log on to.

Desiree Rogers Stepping Down

White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers is stepping down next month.

“It’s been a tremendous experience and honor to serve this president and first lady in what is really a historic presidency for all Americans but particularly for African-Americans,” Rogers tells NYT’s The Caucus. “That is part of the reason I came out to do the job.”

Desiree Rogers is the first African-American to hold the position of White House Social Secretary.

She also told The Caucus that she had made the decision to resign in January after asking herself “What is going to make me the happiest?”, and had not intended to make the announcement for some time. The news, however, leaked on Friday.

The White House has released the following statement:
