Carlos Slim Helu is Richest Man in the World


Mexican mogul Carlos Slim Helu is now the world’s richest man, according to a report by Forbes Magazine released yesterday. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet trailed Carlos Slim Helu in second and third place, respectively.

Carlos Slim Helu amassed his wealth from numerous businesses, but Carlos Slim Helu is most famous for his telecommunications holdings. Carlos Slim Helu bought formerly state-owned Teléfonos de México (Telmex) in 1990. His América Móvil is the largest cell phone operator in Latin America, according to Spanish daily El País.

Carlos Slim Helu also owns a significant share of the U.S. newspaper The New York Times.

“Carlos Slim Helu’s fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months,” the Forbes report says.

It is the first time a Latin American has topped the magazines list of billionaires.

Amy Victoria Beck Arrested For Having Sex With Student

A California middle school English teacher, who admitted to having sex with a teenager over a six-month period, was charged on Tuesday with unlawful sex, officials confirmed.

David starr Jordan Middle School teacher Amy Victoria Beck is scheduled be arraigned in Burbank Superior Court today on four counts of unlawful sex and one count of oral copulation with a person under the age of 16.

According to reports, Beck walked into Burbank police station Monday afternoon told officers she “had sexual relations with one of her students.”

Police later interviewed the boy who corroborated the teacher’s story saying the encounters occurred between March and September 2009 when he was 14.

It is unclear whether Beck turned herself in because an arrest warrant had been issued or if the guilt got to her.

Minneapolis Public Schools Lockdown After Shooting Threats

The Minneapolis School District has locked down all of its buildings for the day after police said a threat to shoot up a Minneapolis school was posted on the Web.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia says officers learned early Wednesday that someone had threatened to open fire in a school then shoot themselves.

The threat was made on two social networking sites. He says the threat didn’t specify which school was the target, so the district decided to lock down all its buildings.

Garcia says at a news conference that police are taking the threats seriously and working to track down who posted them.

Former Child Star Corey Haim Found Dead


The 1980s child star Corey Haim has been found dead in Los Angeles. The actor was 38. The LAPD said Corey Haim death appeared to be an accidental drug overdose, and an investigation is underway.

Corey Haim is most famous for his roles in the 1980s films “License to Drive” and “The Lost Boys” Corey Haim and actor Corey Feldman starred in several popular films together, including “License To Drive” and “Dream a Little Dream,” and became one of the hottest young actor teams in Hollywood.

Corey Haim’s drug use took over his life, however, and helped ruin his career.

After starring in several direct-to-video films in the 1990s, Corey Haim made a comeback in 2006 in the reality series “The Two Coreys” with Corey Feldman.

Layla Grace Marsh Dies Of Cancer


The extraordinary 2-year-old Layla Grace has sadly has lost her battle with Neuroblastoma cancer. In her short life this brave little has managed to both touch and inspires the lives of others. Layla Grace’s story has touched people deeply in Houston and the rest of the country.

Stars such as Ryan Seacrest and Eva Longoria sent out tweets on Twitter in her honor. She especially lived within the embrace of a loving family who are heartbroken over the lost of her life.

Once appearing to be the picture of perfect health, Layla Grace’s health almost over night took a turn for the worst shortly after her 15 month check up. Her appetite was noticeably different caused initial alarm. However, it wasn’t until the desperately ill child woke up one morning with a swollen eye that her parents took her to hospital but did not discovered the extent of her ailment.

Doctor’s attending to Layla Grace treated her for a suspected ear infection assuring her parents that the swelling of the eye would subside once the ear infection cleared up. Sadly, Layla Grace’s condition only continued to deteriorate. Layla Grace’s mother returned the ill child to the pediatrician after a weekend when Layla complained of soreness in her abdomen area.

Ohio State University Shooting: Ohio State Employee Kills Co-Worker, Then Self

An Ohio State University employee killed a co-worker and wounded another before killing himself early Tuesday morning at a university maintenance building, officials said.

The campus police said that they believed the gunman, who arrived carrying two handguns, may have been disgruntled about a poor work evaluation. No students were involved in the shooting, and classes were held as scheduled on Tuesday. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m.

Ohio State University shooter was identified as Nathaniel Brown, 51, a custodial worker. The police said he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Larry Wallington, 48, a building services manager, was pronounced dead at the scene. Henry Butler, 60, an operations shift leader, was shot and injured, the police said, and was in stable condition at the medical center.
