Alcoa Earnings Announcement


Aluminum giant Alcoa, Inc. (AA) recently reported its earnings with disappointing results. After stock markets closed today, Alcoa reported that it had a loss of $277 million US, or 28 cents a share, after including one-time restructuring and other charges, in the three months ending in December. The company also had a loss of $1.19 billion, or $1.49 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2008. (more…)

U-M’s Teresa Sullivan to lead University of Virginia


University of Michigan’s chief academic officer and chief budget officer will leave her post to become the eighth president at University of Virginia.

Teresa Sullivan was named U-M’s provost and executive vice president for academic affairs in 2006 after an eight-month search. She also was a sociology professor at U-M. Earlier today, she was named to the new job by University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors, according to the Virginia school. (more…)

Mark McGwire Admits Using Steroids

Far from election to the Hall of Fame in four chances and about to re-enter baseball after a long absence, Mark McGwire on Monday admitted to using steroids.

McGwire — who set a single-season record with 70 home runs in 1998, a feat that is credited with helping baseball rebound from the 1994 players’ strike — said he used steroids in the 1989-90 offseason, 1993 and “on occasion throughout the nineties, including during the 1998 season” in a statement released by the St. Louis Cardinals. Ford Fusion and Transit Connect win 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year


It seems Ford can already pop open the champagne at its Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) stand, as the jury of the 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year awards has chosen the Ford Fusion and the Ford Transit Connect as its respective winners for the two competitions. (more…)

Harry Reid Racist Comments Are Creating a Controversy in Washington

Harry Reid racist? Comments made by Senator Harry Reid during the 2008 elections are being construed as racist by many, and some are even calling for Senator Reid’s resignation because of these comments.

Harry Reid racist comments include calling President Barack Obama “light skinned” with “no negro dialect” – except, of course when he wants it. President Obama has spoken with Senator Reid about the comments and says that he knows what is in Harry Reid’s heart and considers the book “closed.” (more…)

Accomplished travellers: Russell Brand and Katy Perry arrive at Heathrow airport today, days after returning from their Asian holiday.


It seems life just can’t get any better for Russell Brand and Katy Perry.

Not content with flaunting their three-month relationship to the world on Twitter, the pair have jetted off on yet another holiday.

With her male Twilight co-stars constantly stripping off on-screen, Ashley Greene has clearly decided it is time for her to show off her toned figure.

The actress, who plays Alice Cullen in the vampire saga, went nude for an advertising campaign for a soft drink -with just body paint covering her modesty.

The 22-year-old shot to fame in the Twilight saga of films alongside Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. (more…)
